SEWING WITH TWO SINGLE SEAMS MATCHING

We are now going to work on a seam that has two single seams matching up. Pick up the two units for the gold 4 patch and put the pins at the beginning and end. Nest the two seams together.
push both seams to the left and put a pin in the corners.

Stitch up to the corner making sure you are coming out exactly at the corners on the front
and on the backmaking sure you are not catching the folds in the seam

Repeating myself here, but you can pull the needle all the way through and poke 'n stab the needle up through both seams, to make sure you are getting right in the corner. However, I do this stitch in one movement. As I bring the needle up from the bottom corner, I feel the tip of the needle scrape against the folds and aim for the top corner. With a little practice, this will work beautifully each time.

Pull the needle all the way through. Pass the needle through the top seam only, exactly in the corners on the right
and on the left

Pull the needle all the way through, go down exactly in the corner on the front
and backagain missing the folds

Come up one stitch away from the corners
Pull the needle through, go back down into the corners and load the needle up with stitchesContinue sewing the unit together.

Press the closed seam, flip it open and finger press the seams towards the white. Turn the piece over and press the seams in the direction of the arrows
By pressing the seams in the same direction, you get this nice, flat little swirly in the centerand when you turn it over you have lovely matched seams

Lay the 4 patch, wrong side up, next to the other completed unit.
Go ahead and sew these two units together, then lay them back down wrong side up.
